80s Icons in LEGO Form - LEGO Ideas Winners August 2024

The LEGO Ideas program challenged designers to create a model that ties in with the 1980s. The 1980s are dear to many of us. There were so many iconic TV shows and movies, not forgetting, of course, the amazing fashion trends of the time!

Over 290 submissions were received for the 80s challenge, and this time, the LEGO Ideas program decided to choose two designs to be developed into LEGO sets. There were a myriad of great designs, invoking a lot of nostalgia in many people.

FROM LEGWARMERS TO LEGO

LEGO GIzmo and Goonies sets from Ideas program

After turning the Now That's What I Call Music 3 cassette over for the umpteenth time, the review board decided on the winning two sets:

The Goonies and Gremlins are movies that resonate with so many people, so we believe these are two stellar choices.

LEGO Goonies Ideas

THE GOONIES

Delusion Brick has done a fantastic job with this idea. We love how the caves are in the ship; in the movie, the Inferno is famously stuck in the caves. This is a nice role reversal, allowing so much detail to be incorporated into this submission.

LEGO Goonies Ideas

There are booby traps located throughout the cave network, just like in the iconic movie, and the young adventurers must navigate these to escape.

LEGO Goonies Minifigures

We hope that LEGO will keep the minifigure count at the same number (eleven) or very close to it. LEGO Sloth from the Dimensions set 71267 level pack will finally have some friends!

LEGO Gizmo

GIZMO

The Gremlins film was a holiday favourite for terauma and their family, so this design has been created with a whole lot of love as well as about 400 bricks.

LEGO Ideas Gizmo Rambo

They included an excellent feature: the option for Gizmo to wear his little Rambo costume. This totally rocks.

We can't wait to see both of these designs in production. They will make displays pop, just like our mouths used to when stuffed with popping candy.

Time to brush our mullets now!
